The Restorative Justice Institute of Maine partners with communities to address harm and injustice through practices that build connection, equity, accountability and healing.
Equity & Racial Justice:
Deepen internal capacities and support and accountability structures, enhance community support for change.
Community Education, Coalition & Advocacy:
Strengthen communications, deepen community leadership and capacity, create change together; build stewardship program.
Diversion & Reintegration work:
Sustain/grow demonstration projects (for special issues/populations most impacted: prisoners, survivors of sexual violence, people with disabilities & young adults).
Training & Facilitation:
Expand offerings, deepen capacities and consistency, including sliding scale.
The Outcomes We are Aiming For:
Reduce the risk of harm caused by individuals
Reduce harm caused by systems
Increase trauma-informed, supportive, healing policies and practices
Increase policies and practices that forward empowerment and agency of those most impacted by any situation or system
Reduce the use of punishment
Increase access to Restorative Justice and Reintegration programs in Maine
Increase community accountability and a culture that supports restorative, transformative, trauma-informed justice
Current Strategies:
Build infrastructure and provide service delivery for expanded Juvenile Justice diversion & support
Provide school consulting and coaching for a Restorative, trauma-informed, equitable approach
Collaboratively lead demonstration projects with key priority populations that are underserved or at risk of harm by current systems. Priority populations: prisons, survivors, people w/disabilities, young adults
Provide education, training, networking, advocacy and support for community accountability and a culture of restorative and transformative justice, including in our own organization
